GCS Weekly Warmup (070117)

Posted January 28, 2017

Hello my singing friends!

I was remiss in my last newsletter: Thank you to everyone who participated with singing O Canada at the Guelph Storm Game December 28. It was a lot of fun, we sounded great and I hear the audience loved to see adults singing in four-part harmony. One of our group got a pat and a “well done” from one of the hockey players. PLUS – We’re pretty sure we helped them win the game!

And our last practice was stunningly great! We are really tightening up as a group. Special thanks to Rachel, Grace and Ann who coached us through sectionals. It really makes a difference! We have definitely turned the corner. I have been hearing that our new learning approach (learn and review on alternate weeks) has been a phenomenal help, and of course by listening to our practice tracks we can really “imbed” our parts into our brains.

Rachel’s solo will be “Rule Britannia”, with the choir as chorus. I found some hilarious videos on Youtube, mostly overshadowed by enthusiastic audience participation. You might like this one: Rachel, will you also be costumed as Admiral Nelson? https://youtu.be/rB5Nbp_gmgQ.  I also found this very clear, small chorus version by the USNA Men’s Glee Club: https://youtu.be/u6WwHggOrPA.

As you know, from now until the concert, our practices will go from 7:30 to 9:30. Some small groups are meeting ahead of choir, for example the Hello small group is meeting at 7:15.

CONCERT TICKETS AVAILABLE 7-7:30 BEFORE CHOIR!! Tickets are $10 each, $5 for children, $30 for families. Or email your order to Barb Moldenhauer at  moldenhauer.b@sympatico.ca

REGISTRATION FOR NEXT SESSION FEB 1:
Thank you Barb Anderson, Carol Burke and Hannah Sennit for offering to help with registration. It will be a breeze!

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: REGISTRATION OPEN HOUSE FEB 1 Here’s your chance to get to know some other members!

What We Sang Last: The whole line up

What We’re Singing Next:  The whole line up

PLEASE DO NOT WEAR SCENTS TO PRACTICE: A favour: I have been asked to remind you that some of us are very sensitive to perfumes. One soprano in particular gets quite ill when she is near strong perfume. It would be a shame if she had to quit as a result. Please don’t wear scents to our practices. Thank you!!
