GCS Weekly Warmup (120916)

Posted December 28, 2016

Hello my singing friends!

elfontheshelf

Sorry I had to miss practice this week, I hear we’re doing really well. However, the Elf on the Shelf whispered to me that the Sopranos are not standing close enough together. You will sound much better if you are close enough to hear each other. Cuddle up, Sopranos, or we’re going to have to tell Santa!

Speaking of cuddling up, we have had comments about how the binders get in the way when we’re all tightly gathered on the stage. We’re going to sing with half the binders. So “buddy up” and share your music binder with someone at the concert, It’s a good idea to start practicing sharing now. You may even find that you can sing off book!

We have a theme name for our concert! BREXIT DAZE

CONCERT GUEST PERFORMERS: If you know of a small group that would like to perform at our next concert for 15 minutes, we would love to hear from you.

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS: We will need four people to help with registration for next session. Let me know if you’re available to help out. It means arriving early for the first three weeks to help staff the registration desks, and to help new members find their sections.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

DECEMBER 11, 7:00PM: The Choir of Trinity United Church
, directed by Andrea LeBlanc, invite you and your family to come and enjoy the original Christmas Story in song. This is a wonderful annual event of seasonal music to welcome the Christmas Season! Guelph United Performers – Community Children’s Choir will be participating as well. Holiday Treats to follow the Performance. No tickets – freewill offering only.

DECEMBER 17 4:30-7:00PM: OPEN HOUSE FOR GCS AT MARTINA’S HOUSE. 125 RIVERVIEW DRIVE. Martina has graciously agreed to open her home so that we can all get together for a little social. Please bring your choice of beverage and snacks.

DECEMBER 17 7:30 GUELPH CHAMBER CHOIR MESSIAH AT RIVERRUN http://riverrun.ca/whats-on/gcc-handels-messiah/ Tickets for the Messiah are $35 each or $30 each for 4 tickets or more.

DECEMBER 21 7:30-8:30 SHORT PRACTICE

DECEMBER 28 STORM GAME UPDATE: This was the last week to sign up for the Storm game. We have about 50 singers coming out! Amazing, considering the game is right in the middle of the holidays.

Unfortunately the Storm box office is not willing to take your payments separately, so Martina is going to pay for your tickets with her credit card. You will need to reimburse her, so please bring cash or a cheque made out to Martina Preece for $17.50 X the number of tickets you requested. Please bring your money to practice on December 14 or 21. Martina will have your tickets for you on these dates.

  • Will the singers get an actual ticket, even though they are free for us? If so, when and how do we receive them?
    – The singers, although they are getting in for free, still get an actual ticket so they can, 1) get into the arena through the ticketing gates, and 2) have a seat during the game.
  • What time should we be there?
    – The choir should meet by the Guelph Hall of Fame beside the big white staircase in front of Pharma Plus on the main level of Old Quebec Street Mall at 6:15. At this time, Storm Crew Members will be there to meet the choir and take them through the ticketing gate and into the designated area where everyone can leave items they do not wish to bring on the ice with them and also have a chance to organize lines and warm-up.
  • Will there be a secure place for our coats and purses, or should we ask someone to stay with them?
    – We have a designated area that the choir can feel free to leave items behind and they will be safe during the anthem.

O Canada singers: please wear a RED AND/OR WHITE TOP.

What We Sang Last

Loch Lomond (from page 4 to the end)
A Tribute to Queen (And we came in at 4 minutes and 40 seconds — exactly how long the sheet music said it should run — Rachel timed it!)
Hello
Thinking Out Loud
Nella Fantasia (small group)
Danny Boy
O Canada! (a reminder, we’re singing only English lyrics)

Whew! Yep. Seven songs. We are rocking and rolling and it’s not even mid-December yet.

Look out for next week’s “bloody, buggy” warm-up. Don’t know what Rachel was talking about? Come next week and find out.

PLEASE DO NOT WEAR SCENTS TO PRACTICE: A favour: I have been asked to remind you that some of us are very sensitive to perfumes. One soprano in particular gets quite ill when she is near strong perfume. It would be a shame if she had to quit as a result. Please don’t wear scents to our practices. Thank you!!
