GCS Weekly Warmup (042317)

GCS Weekly Warmup (042317)

Posted May 1, 2017

Hello my singing friends!

Barbara Kyle can’t resist sharing this rather lovely pic of the GCS’s much-appreciated musical director, Rachel Cleland, singing the role of Marcellina in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with Toronto’s Essential Opera in 2011. Although Rachel’s face is in profile, leaving the viewer unaware of the sly smile in her eyes that GCS warblers have come to love, the joy she takes in singing this magnificent opera is abundantly clear.

Last week we sang …
Wicked
Our Song

What we’re singing next:
The Wizard and I
Music of the Night
Make our Garden Grow
Full run through (if we have time)

Who wouldn’t love to make an African rain storm like this?

Social Night!
Tuesday April 25, 6-9 Mijidaa: It’s going to be a fun evening!! For a group of our size, Mijidaa is preparing a set menu. It is $34/person and it includes an appetizer, main course and dessert. I have attached the menu for you to take a look at. We have reserved 30 seats and so far we have 16, including Rachel and her family. I hope you can join us!

How does the Concert Work?
For those of you who haven’t participated in our concerts yet, you may be wondering how our concerts work.

The concert will be at Trinity United, starting at 7:30PM on Saturday June 3. We will continue to practice on Wednesday nights up to the night of the concert. Starting May 17, our practices will start at 7:30 and end at 9:30, giving us an extra half hour. Also on May 17, we will have our second ‘Sectional’ session where we break out into separate rooms to practice certain pieces. We will have a ‘dress rehearsal’ on May 31. By ‘Dress Rehearsal’ we just mean that we will be practicing on the risers.

Concert dress: Bright coloured shirt and black skirt or pants. Please see pictures and videos of past concerts on our website, www.guelphcommunitysingers.ca if you want to know what we look like while we’re singing.

Barb Moldenhauer is our Concert Mistress. She handles all the mechanics of the event with a team of volunteers. We will be calling for volunteers in an upcoming email.

Marketing and Promotion: In the weeks leading up to the concert, we promote the concert with posters and cards. Kira Vermond is our marketing maven, and she will ask for volunteers to help spread the word.

Tickets: We had a full house at the last concert and hope to do so again. We sell tickets in advance. The tickets are available to choir members as soon as they are printed. Ideally, they would be paid for when picked up. We are also happy to give choir members unpaid tickets to sell to family and friends. We ask for the money and any unsold tickets be handed in at our dress rehearsal on the preceding Wednesday, May 31. It is so much easier if all tickets and money are looked after before the night of the concert.
