GCS Weekly Warmup (091817)

Posted September 19, 2017

Hello my singing friends!

We’re already sounding great! Here are a few tips to get the most out of your choir session:
1. The best way to hear your section well is to get cozy and sit close together.
2. It’s also a good idea for first sopranos to sing with first sopranos, seconds with seconds. Same in the other sections. You will hear each other better.
3. If you’re new to the choir, get close to a strong singer in your section. My personal favourite tactic is to sit in front of the section’s strong singers. I find their voices carry me.
4. Attend every practice! The last thing you want is to be doing an unintended solo at concert time!

What we sang last week
Song for the City
I’se the B’y
All Too Soon

What we’re singing this week
Song of our City
I’se the B’y
O Canada – 2 verses (who knew we had two?)

Practice Tracks
These songs are on our website now! You can download them to your music player and annoy the kids when you’re driving them to soccer practice. You can also listen to the four parts together by clicking on the mixer page. I’ve been having fun with the mixer page, especially listening to my favourite, “All Too Soon”.

Cheat Sheet
Download our ‘Reading Music for Beginners’ Cheat sheet from the ‘For Members’ section under the Member’s tab on our website.

Coming soon: Learn to read music with Grace
6:30-7:30 on September 20 and October 4. Great opportunity for those who don’t read music. Sign up sheets will be at the front.

Sing O Canada at a Storm Game
We have been invited to sing our National Anthem at a Storm Game again. December 28! Sign up sheets will be at an upcoming practice. The game will be at the Sleeman Centre. We get to watch the game for free, and we can get discounted tickets for friends and family.

Social Committee!
We need two or three members to help organize social events. If you would like to get to know your fellow choir members outside of practice, flip me an email and we can get started.

Join us after Choir!
You’re all welcome to join us after choir for a cuppa tea or your bevvie of choice at the Pennywhistle. We enjoy talking about what we’re singing, and of course it’s always fun to make new friends.

Please use the Balsam Street Entrance
Trinity United is trying to manage cleaning costs. If you feel you must use the parking lot entrance, please remove your shoes at the door.
No boots in the Sanctuary!
Don’t forget to bring slippers or shoes!
Be Scent Savvy: Some of us are very sensitive to scents. This can include hair spray, body lotion, and other scented products. Because you wear it all the time, you may not even realize that your scent is affecting others. Please give a thought to the products you wear, and please don’t wear scents to our practices. Thank you!!
