GCS Weekly Warmup (112716)

Posted December 6, 2016

Hello my singing friends!

We’re getting there! I hope you all agree that our new process of reviewing songs every two weeks is really helping us learn our parts in more depth.

The season brings many opportunities! Here is a sampling of upcoming musical events. Let me know via email if you are involved in something that you would like to share with the GCS.

TODAY NOVEMBER 27 3PM (sorry for the short notice) The Guelph Concert band is playing a selection of Christmas music at Three Willows. Tickets at the door.

DECEMBER 3 7:30PM – Georgetown Choral Society is performing. $20 tickets at door.

DECEMBER 11, 7:00PM: The Choir of Trinity United Church, directed by Andrea LeBlanc, invite you and your family to come and enjoy the original Christmas Story in song. This is a wonderful annual event of seasonal music to welcome the Christmas Season! Guelph United Performers – Community Children’s Choir will be participating as well. Holiday Treats to follow the Performance. No tickets – freewill offering only.

DECEMBER 17 4:30-7:00PM: OPEN HOUSE FOR GCS AT MARTINA’S HOUSE. Martina has graciously agreed to open her home so that we can all get together for a little social. Please bring your choice of beverage and snacks. Afterward, some may want to go see The Guelph Chamber Choir’s performance of Handel’s Messiah. Tickets for the Messiah are $35 each or $30 each for 4 tickets or more.

DECEMBER 17 7:30 GUELPH CHAMBER CHOIR MESSIAH AT RIVERRUN Tickets for the Messiah are $35 each or $30 each for 4 tickets or more.

DECEMBER 28 STORM GAME UPDATE: We will have the sign-up sheet at the front again this coming Wednesday. If you can’t be there this Wednesday but would like to sign up, please send me an email with your name and section, and how many tickets you would like to buy for friends and family.

We will set aside a block of tickets, so we need to know how many you want. The tickets are $17.50 each. You can call the Storm box office and pay for them yourself with your credit card.

We have decided to continue working with the version that we agreed at the last practice with one bar of the French (Et ta valeur, de foi trempe, protegera nos foyers et nos droits). For those of you who are curious, the English translation to that line is “your valour steeped in faith will protect our homes and our rights”.

What We Sang Last

***Solos for Flashlight please come 15 minutes early***

*** Small Group who want to sing Nella Fantasia please stay for 10-15 minutes after choir***

PLEASE DO NOT WEAR SCENTS TO PRACTICE: A favour: I have been asked to remind you that some of us are very sensitive to perfumes. One soprano in particular gets quite ill when she is near strong perfume. It would be a shame if she had to quit as a result. Please don’t wear scents to our practices. Thank you!!
