Weekly Warmup (V151012)

Posted October 13, 2015

Hey there friends!

We had a great practice last week. I think we’re very close to nailing ‘All Too Soon’. One or two more practices should do it 🙂

Last week, we sang:

  • Un Canadien Errant
  • All Too Soon
  • Sea Song

Who is that voice on the practice tracks?

I am remiss! I should have told you that the beautiful voice you hear on our practice tracks belongs to Janna Pardy. I first met Janna at Long & McQuade. Janna is an experienced piano and voice teacher who hails from Newfoundland. She holds degrees in Music from Mount Allison University, The Vancouver Academy of Music and Western Washington University and has been living, performing and teaching in Toronto since 2004. She has just recently moved to Guelph! She teaches students of all ages and believes that a solid technique is the basis for singing and playing any style of music. Her students have been accepted into music programs at the University of Toronto and Sheridan College and have gained top marks on RCM exams.

Janna has performance experience on the concert and operatic stages across North America including major roles in Verdi’s “La Traviata”, Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”, Puccini’s “La Boheme” and Lehar’s “The Merry Widow”. Currently she is singing and playing with Guelph based band, “Corduroy Road” whose first album was shortlisted for a Juno. Janna is a dynamic performer and teacher and believes that music is beneficial to everyone and that everyone has a “voice”! She also believes that the relationship between teacher and student is vitally important to learning and finding the inner creative artist.

Here is how to reach Janna directly: or (519) 760-1975.

Nine of this season’s selections are on our website now, with new recordings being added weekly. Access them here: To access the ‘Members Only’ section, use the password ‘gcs’, lowercase.

For Wednesday – please take time to watch ‘Dancing Dancing River’ SATB on YouTube. Here are two versions:

Music Reading Workshop!

For those of us (me) who are music-reading challenged, Grace our accompanist will do a music reading workshop on Oct. 14 at 6:45 – 7:30.

Seeking New Venues for Practices and Performances

Both the Baptist Church and Trinity United have raised their fees, so we are exploring new venues. Do you know of a location we should consider? Please reply to this email or talk to Alain at our next practice.

C’mon get social!

Please join us after Choir at Pennywhistle for a glass of wine, a pint or a cup of tea. We love talking about our music. If you have a different idea about a social event, let me know!
